JR西日本とファーストキャビンは、キャビンスタイルの簡易宿所を展開する合弁会社「JR西日本ファーストキャビン」を設立することを決定した。

JR西日本は「JR西日本グループ中期経営計画2017」において非運送業である事業創造分野の拡大を目指しており、ホテル事業については駅およびその周辺、市中において積極展開を進めている。

ファーストキャビンは、低コスト抵工期で宿泊事業を開始できるビジネスモデルを確立しており、飛行機のファーストクラスをイメージした新しいスタイルのコンパクトホテルを展開している。

今後の展開は、合弁会社によるホテルは従来のファーストキャビンの良さを活かしつつ、鉄道のテイストも取り入れた新ブランドでの展開を検討しており、2017年には第1号店の開業を目指す。

JR西日本グループが直営で展開するホテルは、大別して4ブランドの構成となる。
