英国に本社を置き自動車技術に関する調査およびコンサルティングを手掛けるSBD Automotiveジャパン（名古屋市）では、SBD Automotiveが2021年に主要グローバルEV市場において3,600人以上を対象に実施した消費者調査に基づく分析・考察をしたレポート「電気自動車に対する障壁：ユーザー調査に基づく分析考察」を2021年6月26日に発行しました。

EV市場はここ数年で世界的に目覚ましい成長を遂げましたが、この成長の大部分は隠れたコスト、すなわち政府出資によるインセンティブを伴うものでした。EVの生産コストが下がり、購入価格の差が継続的に縮まるにつれ、ユーザーの購買決定におけるインセンティブや価格の重要性は低下していきますが、コストは購買決定において重要な役割を果たす多くの主要な要因の一つにすぎません。

購買の障壁となる要因としては、航続距離に関する不安、スタイリング、充電インフラの不足、EV部品の持続可能な生産などが挙げられます。これらの懸念はユーザーの念頭に上って購買決定に影響を及ぼすようになってきており、価格が主要な動機でなくなっても従来車（ICE）を購入し続ける原因となっています。

本書では、ユーザー調査に基づく消費者のEVに対する認識、購入における障壁、将来的な対策を分析・考察しています。
