■コロナ禍の影響で水泳の授業が中止に…
児童数が1,000人を超える川崎市立富士見台小学校(所在地：神奈川県川崎市)では、コロナ禍となった2020年から現在まで、体育の授業における水泳の授業を中止しています。小学校で、感染防止対策のガイドラインを遵守するために、一度の授業でプールに入れるクラス数を減らし、天候にも左右される場合、夏のシーズン中に生徒全員が同じ水泳の授業を受けられることは困難な状況です。「生徒全員に授業を行うことが難しく、やむを得ず中止にしている。現在の1年生、2年生は小学校でプールに一度も入ることが出来ていない。小学校の低学年の時期に経験をさせてあげられず、とても残念に思う。」と白石校長は話します。

■コロナ禍で考えるスイミングの役割
サギヌマスイミングクラブ宮前平は「このコロナ禍でスイミングとして近隣の小学校や地域の子ども達にしてあげられることはないだろうか…」と考え、川崎市立富士見台小学校の子ども達にむけ、地域貢献活動の一環として無料水泳教室を開催することを決定しました。これについて白石校長は「地域のスイミングが無料での水泳教室をひらいてくれることは非常にありがたい。学校で経験させてあげられていない水泳の授業を親しみのある地域のスイミングが請け負ってくれ、助かっている。」と話します。

同クラブは、川崎市立富士見台小学校に入学してからまだ一度も学校での水泳の授業を経験していない低学年の子ども達にむけて、2月23日(水)に一度目の教室を開催。「学校で2年間水泳がなかったので、この機会を作ってもらい本当に良かった。」「怖いと言っていたプールが楽しくなってとても良かった。」と子ども達だけでなく、保護者の方からも喜びの声が聞かれました。

また、「大変な社会情勢のなかではあるが、子ども達に身体を動かす場の提供をし、元気になってもらいたい！また、コロナ禍において、少しでも小学校の力になることができればとてもうれしい。微力ではあるが地域のために出来ることをしていきたい。」とサギヌマスイミングクラブ宮前平掛橋麻里子支配人は話します。
この川崎市立富士見台小学校の無料水泳教室は、次回、3月21日(月)に2回目を開催します。
