神奈川県に住むMさん。今から3年前、彼女はある食材にハマっていた。それは……唐辛子。しかも、自分で育てるほどにハマっていた!

そんなある日、収穫した唐辛子を乾燥させることに。生の唐辛子は、乾燥させることで水分が抜け、長期間保存できる。一般的には風通しの良い場所で自然乾燥させるのが普通だが、彼女は驚きの方法で行った! その方法とは、軽く水で洗って水分をとり……それを電子レンジの中へイン!

実は彼女、前にも同じ方法で乾燥バジルを作っていた! だから、躊躇なく電子レンジの中へ。そして、何となくイケそうな時間で加熱。しかし、これが地獄のような事態を巻き起こす!

チン! となった後、電子レンジの扉を開けた次の瞬間! 中からの水蒸気が顔にかかり、信じられないほどの痛みが目にきた。そして大量の鼻水!

さらに咳がひどく息ができない! 実は生の唐辛子を電子レンジで加熱すると刺激成分となるカプサイシンを含んだ水分が蒸発する。彼女の場合、大量の生の唐辛子を長い時間加熱したことで電子レンジ内では水蒸気とともにカプサイシンが充満していた!

そして、粘膜や喉に入ったことで涙や咳などの症状が出たと考えられる。これは専門家によると、動物撃退用などに使われる催涙スプレーを吹きかけられたのとほぼ同じという恐ろしいほどの威力だった!

なんとか外へ身を乗り出して新鮮な空気を吸って対処した芽依さん。ちなみに、その唐辛子はパリパリには乾いていなかったが、細かくして料理に使ったという。電子レンジで生の唐辛子を加熱するのはおすすめできません! （2021年10月5日OA）
