むしろ良かった？「TT兄弟」「そろりそろり」が2019年新語・流行語大賞に選ばれなかった意外な理由とは




毎年の世相を反映し、人々の話題にあがった言葉に贈られる『ユーキャン新語・流行語大賞』にノミネートされた2019年の30語が、11月6日に発表された。



 



今年は新元号「令和」のほか、消費税が10％になったことに関連した「軽減税率」「キャッシュレス／ポイント還元」……あと、池袋で起きた乗用車暴走事故を機にインターネット上で広まった「上級国民」「免許返納」のほか、大盛況となったラグビーＷ杯絡みからは「ジャッカル」「ONE TEAM」「笑わない男」……など、複数の言葉が選ばれた。



 



つい２週間ほど前、私はここcitrusに寄稿したコラム『「ジャッカル」「笑わない男」だけじゃない！ ラグビーＷ杯を通して考える、流行語大賞の大穴』で、



 



 




私個人としてはもう一つ、（新語・流行語大賞の）“大穴中の大穴”として「ニワカですけど…」というワードをここに加えておきたい。




 



……と書いたばかりであるが、「にわかファン」も多少の言い回しの違いこそあれど、物の見事にノミネート！今年最大級のイベントとなったラグビーＷ杯の熱狂ぶりを反映しつつも、ちょっぴりの風刺と捻りも利かせた、なかなかバランスの良い“作品”だと私は思うので、ぜひともこのまま突っ走って「大賞」の座を獲得してほしい。ちなみに、新語・流行語大賞は大賞が発表される最終選考結果のときよりも、まだ「受賞者が出席してくれるかどうか」みたいな忖度が働いていない、この時期にあれこれ論じるほうが面白い。



 



で、今年ノミネートされたワードの一連をあらためてなぞってみると……「お笑い界から発生したものが見当たらない」という事実に、親愛なるcitrus読者の皆さまはお気づきだろうか？ 「2019年は不作だった」と言ってしまえばそれまでなんだが、『スポニチAnnex』によると、この“結果”に関して選考委員である漫画家のやくみつる氏（60）が、11月9日に放送されたラジオ『ナイツのちゃきちゃき大放送』（TBS系）に出演した際、以下のように意味深なコメントをなされていた。



 




（お笑いコンビ『チョコレートプラネット』の持ちネタである「TT兄弟」「そろりそろり」などの強力なギャグがノミネートの時点で落選したことに対して）「まったく（候補として）挙がらなかった」

 

「彼らはギャグに依存している訳ではないじゃないですか。毎回しっかりしたネタを作り込んできてるんで。第7世代と言われる人たちもそうだし。だから（流行語として）くくりにくい」

 

「（ネタの完成度をトータル的に考えたうえで、チョコプラや第7世代は）むしろ入んない方が…（と、落選の意味を前向きに捉えるべきと主張した）」




 



「新語・流行語大賞を受賞したお笑い芸人は一発屋で終わってしまう」なるジンクスは、もはや一般レベルでさえ認識されつつある“お約束的な流れ”であるが、注目に値すべきなのは、やく氏（をはじめとする）選考側も、この“定則”を冷徹に自覚しているということだ。



 



とどのつまりが（「新語」はともかくとして）「流行語」とは、爆発的に世間へと流通するだけではなく、また同時に「その後はきちんと消え去っていくこと」も“然るべき条件”として課せられる宿命にある、本来は刹那性に満ちた言葉なのかもしれない。
