Adobeは、2016年7月7日にロンドンで開催した自社カンファレンスにおいて、VRが将来的に取り組むべき重要課題であることを宣言した。

同社は2016年7月7日、将来取り組みべき課題を討論するカンファレンスをロンドン大学で開催し、その結果を「The FUTURE OF EXPERIENCE」というレポートにまとめた。

そのレポートにおいて、Adobeは将来撮り組むべき5つの重要課題のひとつとしてVRを挙げている。

そのほかの重要課題には、AR、AI、ウェアラブル、そしてIoT(モノのインターネット)が挙げられている。

“THE FUTURE OF EXPERIENCE”より引用

VRとARに関しては、Adobe製ソフトを含めた多くのソフトのインターフェースで主流となっているGUI(グラフィカルユーザーインターフェース)に変わるテクノロジーとして位置づけている。

ただ、VRとARを導入することでより直観的な操作の実現を目指すというよりは、新規性と意外性が重要だと考えている。

Adobeが以上のように考えるのは、同社が独自に実施した成人を対象にした意識調査から、64%の成人が新しいテクノロジーにセレンディピティ(思いがけない出会いによる発見)を求めていることがわかったからだ。

カンファレンスでは、VR空間におけるプライバシーの重要性も確認された。

VR空間はバーチャルな交流の場ではあると同時に、個人がくつろげる場であるべきなのだ。
