VIA Technologies, Inc.は、3月27日～28日まで中国・深センで開催中の『HTC Vive Ecosystem Conference 2017』にて、第1世代のVpai 720°カメラのデモンストレーションを披露したと発表した。

「Vpai 720度カメラは、魅力的なパノラマビデオを撮影し、即座にレンダリングする能力を備えており、HTC Viveのビジュアル体験を創造するための新しい可能性を開きます。」

VIA Vpaiプラットフォーム

量産化にも対応した720°カメラハードウェアプラットフォームのVpaiは、ユーザーフレンドリーなスマートフォンアプリケーションを組み合わせ、オン・ザ・フライで高解像度の没入型ビデオ画像の撮影とステッチングを可能にている。

第1世代のVpaiカメラは、中国・深センを拠点とするChiptrip、ForFun、Ekenの3社から、スタイリッシュでポータブルな7つの製品が発売され、100米ドル以下で購入が可能である。

このVpaiハードウェアプラットフォームは、後処理を必要とせずにフルHD画質を実現する高性能シリコンビデオ圧縮エンジンと、縦方向360°と横方向360°のキャプチャ機能を備えたデュアル魚眼レンズレンズにより、全天球（2048×1024ピクセル）の没入型ビデオと画像を生成する事が可能である。
