独自のイノベーションと研究開発力を持つVRのリーディングブランド・PICOが、OpenXR規格に完全準拠したことを発表しています。

これにより開発者は、最小限の調整でPICOヘッドセット上でOpenXRアプリを実行できるようになっています。

VRヘッドセットのPICO社が今回、Khronos Groupが開発したOpenXR規格に完全準拠することを発表し、複数のプラットフォームで高性能アプリケーションを実行でき、かつ、すべてのPICO製ヘッドセットと互換性があるシステムを開発できるようになったとしています。

OpenXR規格とは

今回PICOが準拠したOpenXRは、Khronos Groupが開発したロイヤリティフリーのオープンスタンダードで、開発者が同じコードを再利用しながら、より多くのプラットフォームにアクセスできるようにすることで、VR開発を簡素化することを目的に開発されました。

今回の準拠によって開発者は、OpenXR規格の恩恵を受けつつ、PICOヘッドセットで最高のポータビリティを実現することが可能になっています。

PICO社では、OpenXR規格に完全準拠することで、消費者や企業のユーザーがより多くのアプリにアクセスできるようになり、同社の消費者向け・企業向けヘッドセット製品での全体的な使用感が向上するとしており、同社代表のHenry Zhou氏は、

「PICOは、ヘッドセットと、PICOユーザーがヘッドセットからアクセスできるアプリの強化を続けており、これはPICOにとって重要なステップとなります。」
