株式会社NTTドコモは、Arcturus社の技術協力により、幅広いユーザー向けに撮影した人や場所の3次元データを3D空間に再現した「Volumetric Video」映像のストリーミング配信を可能にする技術を開発したことを発表しました。

この技術を活用した映像が、2021年2月7日（日）まで開催されている「docomo Open House 2021」の”Virtual Booth”にて配信されています。

「Volumetric Video」とは

「Volumetric Video（ボリュメトリックビデオ）」は、専用の機材を用いてあらゆる角度から撮影した人や物の3DモデルをVR空間に再現する技術で、被写体の動きを高精度にデジタル化できる技術を用いて、臨場感のあるVRコンテンツを360度自由に視点を動かして視聴することも可能にしています。

高画質の長尺コンテンツを配信可能へ

高画質を求められる「Volumetric Video」映像の配信は、配信するのに大容量のネットワークが必要になるため、短尺映像のダウンロード配信に限定されていましたが、今回ドコモが開発した技術では、

・コンテンツのクオリティを一定以上に保ちながら配信時のビットレートを最適化する

・長尺コンテンツの再生する

ことを可能にしており、長尺で高品質な「Volumetric Video」映像のストリーミング配信を実現しています。

併せて、Arcturus社が提供している「Volumetric Video」映像の再生プレイヤーに、HMDなどの異なる仕様のデバイスでも視聴できる開発が加えられており、コンテンツをダウンロードする時間を待つことなく、視聴したいときに好みのデバイスを用いてすぐに映像を楽しむことができるようになっています。

「docomo Open House 2021」で映像配信

今回ドコモが米・Arcturus社の技術協力で開発した技術を活用した「Volumetric Video」映像コンテンツが、2021年2月7日（日）まで開催されている「docomo Open House 2021」の”Virtual Booth”にて配信されています。

配信されているのは

「浜辺美波のジェスチャークイズ！」

「VRバドミントン」

で、女優の浜辺美波さんやバドミントン選手のVolumetric Video映像に3Dのオブジェクトやモデルなどの演出を加えた、リッチで臨場感のある「docomo Open House 2021」だけの限定コンテンツとなっています。

その他にも、音楽ライブ映像や「Tリーグ」の試合映像などのVR空間で楽しめるコンテンツの配信がされています。

これらのコンテンツは、App StoreやGoogle Playで配信されているアプリ「docomo Open House 2021」をダウンロ―ドして楽しむことができます。
