海外メディアVirtualRealityReporterは、2016年10月16日の記事において、世界初の4KVRヘッドセット「PIMAX 4K VR」の販売開始を報じた。

同メディアは、世界初の4K画質のVRヘッドセット「PIMAX 4K VR」がネットショッピングサイトGearBestから販売開始されたことを報じた。

中国メーカーPimaxが開発した同ヘッドセットは、Oculus RiftやHTC社のVIVEと同じPC接続型のVRヘッドセットで、現時点ではポジション・トラッキング機能は実装されていないが、今年12月頃までには専用コントローラーとともに実装すると述べている。

同ヘッドセットの解像度は3860 x 2160なので、Oculus RiftおよびVIVEの解像度2160 x 1200を大きく上回る。

価格は$349.99となっており、Oculus Riftの$599、VIVEの1200よりかなり安価となっている。

なお、同ヘッドセットで起動できるアプリには専用アプリがあるほかに、SteamVRとOculusのドライバーを認識できるので、SteamあるいはOculus HomeからダウンロードしたOculus対応アプリをプレイすることができる。
