街まるごと破壊できる超人が主人公のFPS「Megaton Rainfall」、PSVR＆PS4対応で9月26日リリース

海外メディアRoad to VRは、PSVR &PS4対応FPS「Megaton Rainfall」を報じた。

「最強の超人」がエイリアンをせん滅する異色のFPS

同メディアによると、PSVRおよびPS4対応のFPSタイトル「Megaton Rainfall」が2017年9月26日にリリースされる。

概要

「Megaton Rainfall」(直訳すると「メガトン級の豪雨」)は、地球侵略を企てるエイリアンを迎え撃つという典型的とも言えるSF的世界観のFPSだ。ゲームグラフィックも、映画「インディペンデンス・デイ」を彷彿とさせるような既視感のあるものである。

同タイトルの特異なところは、エイリアンを迎え撃つプレイヤーが操作する主人公にある。主人公は、ゲーム開始時点で街まるごと破壊できるような超人的存在なのだ。それゆえ、FPS(First Person Shooting：一人称視点シューティング)といっても描写される景色は通常のヒトからではなく、高層ビルよりも高い「巨人」から見える鳥瞰的な視界なのだ。

特徴

同タイトルの特徴のすべては、以上のような「超人」を操作することに関わるものだ。

主人公は、手から光線を発射してエイリアンの侵略機を破壊していく。しかし、もし光線が侵略機から外れたら、街を破壊することになる。テレキネシスを使って敵の攻撃を薙ぎ払うこともできる。もっとも、同時に地上にあるヒトの車両も吹き飛ばすことになるが。巨大なブラスト弾は、エイリアンの母船を一瞬で消滅させることができる。もし、そのブラスト弾が外れたら街ひとつが消し飛ぶことは避けられない。

主人公は、ゲーム開始時点で通常のFPSならばチートなみの攻撃力を持っているのだが、移動手段は歩く以外はない。だが、ゲームが進行するにつれ、空を飛べるようになり、さらには成層圏を超えて宇宙空間にまで達する。

宇宙空間に到達した主人公は、灼熱の太陽の表面をも歩けるようになり、地球をまるごと破壊することも可能となる。ここまで強くなると、もはやどちらが地球を破壊するエイリアンがわからなくなるほどだ。

開発の背景と今後の展開

同タイトルの開発者Alfonso del Cerroによると、同タイトルを魅力的にしている画面いっぱいに描写された街並みを実現するために、同タイトルのためにカスタマイズされたゲームエンジンを開発した、とのこと。ゲームエンジンの開発からスタートしたこともあり、開発がスタートしたのが2012年なので開発期間に実に5年を要したことになる。

画面のレンダリングはPSVR版・PS4版ともに60fpsであり、PS4 Proでプレイする場合には3840 x 2160の4K画質となる。

細密な街並みだけにリアルな世界の街並みと同じではないかと思われてしまうが、同氏によるとリアルな世界を参考にしたわけではないので、Google Earthのように自分の家を探しても見つからないそうだ。

以上のような街並みとエイリアンの母船および侵略機のデザインには4人のアーティストが関わり、ゲーム・ミュージックは「Hellblade」の音楽を作曲したDavid Garcia氏が担当している。

同タイトルは、PSVR版およびPS4版のほかにPC版が2017年10月26日にSteamより配信される予定。VIVEおよびOculusへの対応に関しては、現時点では一切情報がないが、同タイトルがヒットすれば移植は十分にありえるだろう。
