指先のジェスチャーだけで絵が描ける！ARKitで制作されたアプリのデモ動画公開

AppleのリリースしたARライブラリ、ARKitを使用して制作されたアプリ「ARPaint」のデモ動画が公開された。

制作を手掛けたのはiOSやMacなどのアプリケーション開発を手掛けるOsama AbdelKarim AboulHassan氏。

アプリを使うことでユーザーは、指先をペンのように使ってAR空間上に絵を描くことが出来るようになる。

2Dの絵から3Dモデルも制作可能！

動画を見て分かるように、アプリ使用者はメモやテーブルなどの上で指先を何かをつまむような形にして、線を引くようなジェスチャーをするだけでよい。

またこのアプリは2D上で絵を描くことが出来るだけではない。描き終えた後に絵を上方へと引っ張るジェスチャーをすることで、3Dオブジェクトを制作することが可能だ。

動画中では、スマートフォンの画面上で指の動きに合わせて円と線が描かれて表示された後、その絵を上へと引っ張ることでヨーロッパ中世の城のような外観のオブジェクトが生成されている。

線の色を変更可能かどうかなど、細かい機能の仕様に関しては明らかにされていないが、かなり直感的な仕方でイラストを描くことが出来そうだ。

なお、このアプリのソースコードはGithubから閲覧可能だ。

続々とリリースされるARKitアプリ

ARKitが可能にすること

toptalにおいてAboulHassan氏はARKitが可能にする特徴的な点を以下の2点にまとめて指摘している。

第1に3D空間内におけるカメラの位置を把握することが可能となること。

ARKitを利用することでユーザーのカメラを現実の3D空間を移動する一つの「カメラ」としてみなすことが可能となる。このためAR空間のどの場所に3Dオブジェクトを置いたとしても、その地点を現実空間の場所と結び付けて処理することが出来るというわけだ。

そして第2に水平面の探知が可能となることだ。これはそのままの意味で、「ARPaint」でメモ帳やテーブルを水平面として認識することが出来るような処理を行えるということ。

要するにARKitが一定水準以上のクオリティをもつARコンテンツ制作にあたって必要なライブラリを十分に備えている、というわけだ。

しかしAboulHassan氏の他にもARKitに注目し、様々なアプリケーションを生み出そうとするソフトウェア開発者やデザイナーは多く存在している。

そのうち本メディアでも既に紹介したことのあるアプリを、以下に掲載していこう。

日用品のマニュアルをAR表示するアプリ

アプリメーカーのJigSpaceによって開発された「ARマニュアルアプリ」。

既にPCなどの家電製品に付属してくる説明書などを保存する代わりに、製品販売元のメーカーサイトで閲覧するという人も多いだろう。

このアプリは、そうしたペーパーレスの時代に適したアプリケーションだといえる。

ただしARを活用しているため、単にWEB閲覧で説明書を見る場合と異なり、製品を見ながら説明書を眺めることが出来るのだ。

動画ではエスプレッソマシンを回転させつつその内部構造を確かめている様子や、バラバラな椅子のパーツが完成品でいえばどの部分に当たるかなどを分かりやすく理解できるデモンストレーションなどが収められている。

スーパーでの買い物に便利なアプリ

こちらはデザイナーのBruce Vang氏によって開発されたアプリ。買い物に行ったときに、欲しい商品が陳列棚のどこに置かれているかを知らせてくれるアプリだ。

このアプリはスーパーと客、双方によって利用される必要がある。つまりスーパーの側ではアイテムリストとその位置情報を相互に参照可能なデータを作成しておく必要があり、また客の側は購入したいモノをアプリに登録する必要がある。

アプリは、客の買いたいモノが店にあった場合、その商品の位置までの距離をAR表示するなどといったナビゲーションを自動で行ってくれる。

もし実用化されれば、アメリカのように大規模なスーパーマーケットでは大いに役立つことだろう。

iPhoneだけでもARKitに対応可能な機種は既に約3億8千万台存在しているとされており、ここにiPadなどの台数も含めればARKitを利用できるデバイスはさらに多いことになる。

ここまで上げてきたようなARKitアプリは、今後も続々とリリースされ続けることだろう。
