スマートフォンMR「MobileMR」の提供を開始

VR（バーチャルリアリティ）/MR（複合現実）事業を手がける株式会社アイデアクラウドは、GoogleのAR技術Tangoを活用したスマートフォンMR（複合現実）「MobileMR」の提供を6月29日（木）より開始したということを発表した。

Tangoに対応したPhab 2 Pro、ZenFone ARなどのTango対応端末とVRHMDを組み合わせて、現実世界にCGをオーバレイすることが可能であるということだ。

スマートフォンで気軽に体験できるMR（複合現実）体験

Tangoを利用することで、現在販売されているMRデバイスのように、現実世界の空間情報と設置されたCGの位置情報を照合し、配置されたオブジェクトに近づいたり、回り込むことが可能であるということだ。

MRの体験はデバイス自体が高額であったり、安価なモデルでもPCが必要であったが、スマートフォンとVRHMDを組み合わせて実現することで、より手軽に体験することができるようになるという。

現実世界が描画されているため、VRHMDを覗き込んだままオブジェクトに近づいたり手を伸ばす事ができるということである。

また、アプリケーションにはMR上での世界を撮影できる機能があり、例えば恐竜などを現実世界に呼び出し、それらを観察しながら気になったシーンを撮影することも可能になるとのことだ。

教育での利用や子ども向けのイベント活用など、様々なシーンで見るだけでは無い、プラスαの要素として機能するということである。

今後の展開について

現在のデモ動画は、単純にオブジェクトを空間に配置しているだけのものとなっているということだが、今後この技術をベースとして、教育・ゲーム・イベントや企業の課題解決など、用途に特化したカスタマイズモデルを提供するなどの展開を行っていくということである

AR技術「Tango」とは？

Tangoとは、GoogleのR＆D部門であるATAPグループが開発しているAndroid向けAR/MRのフレームワークのことである。

スマホに搭載された赤外線カメラによって周囲の情報を取得し、現実世界に3Dモデルを配置したりできるという機能を持っている。

Google社が発表しているVR向けのCardboardやDaydreamと違い、赤外線カメラなどの専用ハードウェアを必要としており、AR/MR向けであることが特徴である。
