今、世界では星空を「世界遺産」に登録しようと動き出している地域があります。

そこは、ニュージーランドのテカポ。

テカポは昼にも美しい湖と花を楽しむことができますが、日が落ちればその思わず息を飲む姿へと変貌します。

この星空を世界遺産にしようと、ニュージーランドの環境庁を中心にして動き出しています。

テカポの星空の美しさは、塵や水蒸気の少ない大気と街灯がない暗闇で成り立っています。更に、テカポの晴天率はかなり高く、ほとんど毎日美しい星空が眺められるというので驚きです。

ライトには屋根をつけたり、余計な街灯はつけないように努力をして、現地の人々はこの星空を守っています。
